In step-up auto-transformer input voltage is stepped up to a desired value and output voltage depends upon the turn ratio. But input and output apparent power will remains same so the input current will be stepped down on secondary side of auto-transformer in inverse turn ratio.
Step-down auto-Transformer
In step-down auto-transformer input voltage is stepped down to a desired value and output voltage depends upon the turn ratio. But input and output apparent power will remains same so the input current will be stepped down on the secondary side of the auto-transformer.
Variable auto-Transformer
Variable auto transformer is also known as variac or Dimmer stat. Variable auto-transformer is types of auto-transformer provided with tapping in its winding so it can supply variable output voltage as required. Such type of transformer are very useful because it can be adjusted to any voltage as require just by adjusting its tapping by rotating the knob.
It can be used as voltage regulator or in electrical and electronic workshops where variable voltage is to be supplied.
