Cylindrical shape of conservator tank enables uniform stress distribution along the wall of the tank. This means stress or pressure developed in the conservator tank due to expansion of transformer oil is dissipated equally in every direction. This make cylindrical tank structurally stronger and become able to withstand high pressure during the operation of a transformer.
Also cylindrical tank are easier to design and manufacture, repair and maintain. That’s why most of the conservator tank are cylindrical in shape.
